Book Scholarship Guidelines

 

 

General Information:

 

We will be awarding book scholarships to aid students in pursuit of post-secondary degrees.

 

The Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church Book Scholarship program is:

  • Awarded to high school seniors entering a college/university or trade school seeking a degree or certificate of completion
  • Awarded to students currently enrolled in a post-secondary program.
  • Renewable to students enrolled in a post-secondary program who previously received a book scholarship.

 

Criteria for applying:

High School Seniors

 

  1. Open to high school seniors with preference to Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church members.
  2. Should demonstrate active participation or leadership in church ministries as well as community service or extra-curricular activities.
  3. Must have attained at least a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Applicant must provide a final official transcript from their high school with the school seal

and in a sealed envelope.

  1. NO REPORT CARDS OR PROGRESS REPORTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
  2. Must have been admitted to a college/university or trade school for the fall/spring.

(Applicant must provide copy of an official letter of acceptance from the

college, university or trade school.)

  1. Must submit a typed statement no more than two pages double spaced describing your faith, personal goals and how receiving this scholarship will assist you in reaching that goal.
  2. Interview with Scholarship Committee.

 

Reapplying College Students

  1. Open to college/trade school students with a preference to members of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church and active in ministry when possible/ or under watch care (Applicant must provide letter from attending church)
  2. Must have attained at least a 2.7 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

(Applicant must provide an official transcript from their college, university or trade school with the school seal and in a sealed envelope.)

  1. NO REPORT CARDS, ELECTRONIC REPORTS OR MID-TERM GRADE REPORTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
  2. Copy of class registration for Fall/Spring semester/session and must take at least 12 credit hours
  3. Must submit a typed essay no more than two pages double spaced on one of the following essay questions
  4. Describing how this award will help you academically and how your area of study will allow you to give back or assist others.
  5. Describe how you anticipate making a contribution to society.
  6. What activities do you participate in that most build and reflect your character?
  7. Describe your most meaningful achievements and how they relate to your field of study.
  8. Now that you have completed college course work did you pick the correct major for you? Yes or No describe in detail
  9. Interview with Scholarship Committee (First Time Applicants Only)

How to send information to Scholarship Committee:

  1. Applicant must submit all required documents in one package.

  1. The Scholarship Committee will not accept any application materials that are mailed separately or dropped off at the church office.
  2. Applications must be postmarked no later than December 31 for fall submission and May 31 for spring submission. No application materials will be accepted after December 31 for fall submission and May 31 for spring submission.
  3. All eligibility requirements must be met. Failure to provide all required documents will result in denial of scholarship.

High School Seniors:

  • Completed scholarship application form
  • Official sealed transcript from high school
  • Copy of acceptance letter from college/university or trade school
  • Typed Statement

Reapplying College Students:

  • Completed scholarship application form
  • Official sealed transcript from college/university or trade school
  • Copy of fall/spring class registration
  • Typed Statement
